Erg Chigaga Sand Dunes from Ouarzazate, 3 Days and 2 Nights
A Sahara loop to the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga, 60 km off road beyond Mhamid, returning by Iriki Lake and Foum Zguid.
Erg Chigaga has no hotels: the dunes lie 60 km off road, about two hours from Mhamid, so every visit includes a night in a Sahara camp under tents. The loop takes in Zagora, Iriki Lake, Foum Zguid and Tazenakht.
The dunes are six hours of driving from Ouarzazate, which is why we recommend three days to break the journey. The first night is in a hotel in Mhamid or Zagora and the second in the dunes, in a standard camp or a luxury tent on request at extra cost. You arrive earlier and have more time in the wilderness of the Moroccan Sahara.

Itinerary
Day 1: Ouarzazate, Draa Valley, Zagora
Pickup at 8:30 am and travel south across the Anti Atlas to Agdz and Tamnougalt to visit old ksars and kasbahs. Continue along the Draa River and its Berber villages to Zagora for lunch and check in. In the late afternoon visit Tamegroute and its pottery village.
Day 2: Zagora, Mhamid, Erg Chigaga
Stop at Ait Isfoul and the village of Mhamid, then drive off road to Erg Chigaga for a sunset camel ride and a night in a standard or luxury tented camp, depending on your package.
Day 3: Erg Chigaga, Foum Zguid, Tazenakht, Ouarzazate
Wander the dunes at sunrise and enjoy the silence before breakfast at camp. Travel back via the great lake of Iriki, Foum Zguid and Tazenakht to Ouarzazate.
