Zagora and Draa Valley Day Trip from Ouarzazate
The one day trip that lets you taste the desert: the Draa palm groves, Tamegroute and the first dunes of Tinfou.
Pickup is at your hotel in Ouarzazate. You cross the Anti Atlas and the Tizi n Tinifift pass toward Agdz, where the Draa palm grove begins and stretches for more than 190 km. Villages line both banks and farming is the main way of life, with the date harvest from August to October.
The famous kasbah of the valley is Tamnougalt, on the left bank. Zagora, cradle of the Saadian dynasty that ruled Morocco in the sixteenth century, is known for its sign reading "Tombouctou 52 days". Eighteen kilometres further, Tamegroute keeps a library of precious manuscripts and green pottery workshops, and seven kilometres beyond are the first sand dunes of Tinfou. Lunch is in Zagora before the return to Ouarzazate in the afternoon.
If your time in Morocco is short, this is the only day trip that lets you feel the desert in a single day.
